jul 28, 2007 Doin' the LICKin' thang.
Hey, kids, it's Tosh. The
three of us are here at bootLICKER central werkin' on stuff.
On the drive up June and I were
rocking out to Def Leppard's "Hysteria". (LOVED! that album!)
I took a few minutes to scan through the CD insert which I hadn't seen in
... years. I really thought about everything we've been through - line-up
changes, onstage drama, the back biting... You know it's not really that
bad stacked up to losing limbs and bandmates dying.
But oh, the life of a band.
It's a crazy thing. It keeps you on your toes or knocks you over the head
with a cement pillar...
Anywho, we're starting to get to
work on the next phase of LICKERdom. John's been writing tunes, June's been
making contacts, and I... well, I've been whoring as usual. :D
So keep your eyes and ears open.
But at this time we will not comment on the rumors regarding a new album and new
music videos. HEARSAY, you hear? HEARSAY!
Shhhhh. Be vewwy vewwy kwaiiiiii-et.
to catch a pred...bootLICKER

Jason Kraley busy for over 6 weeks. This feature marks the first Kraley
Productions DVD project and was fully edited using Final Cut Pro 4.5.
The pre-release DVD debut will take place at the OPEN YOUR EYES artspace expo
held on the second floor of SAL'S ON 12th, in Center City, Philadelphia on FRIDAY

dec 24, 2003 well, it's finally here! the long-awaited third CD by the bootLICKERS - AUTOMATIC
BALL CLEANER (coLinGa records)
what's that?! you say you didn't even know that
we'd started work on a new one? well, it sorta just happened. we had
recently put together a pa/ohio mini-tour and once we hit the road, everything
just 'clicked'. well, we got back and we totally wanted to capture that
vibe so...we booked a studio for ONE day to record (dec 3rd, to be exact) and we
just went in and did it - record, that is ;-) we went live-to-tape and at
the end of the day, we picked the best material...two covers ('h.w.c.' by liz
phair and 'homo xmas' by pansy division) and four new originals. we
documented the recording session and have immortalized it as a 20-minute
documentary on the cd along with a photo slideshow and the music video for our
song 'radio city' (from HUGE). video?! no, we're not drunk
(at the moment)! the CD is an enhanced multimedia CD EXTRA and if you very
delicately place it in your PC, you can view all of the video extras - sweet,
eh?
AUTOMATIC BALL CLEANER
should be available for sale online (CD Baby, Towerrecords.com, Starpolish.com)
within two weeks - and for digital download via iTUNES soon after (there's a
whole encoding process it has to go thru, blah, blah...). We'll let you
know as soon as it's ready. can't wait that long? DON'T DESPAIR -
the CD will be available at our TWO CD release parties on Dec 28th and
Dec 30th (see sidebar for details).
as always, feedback is key - so
let us know what you think of the new recording. and spread the word...our
best promoter is YOU!! xoxo
sep 15, 2003 hi everyone...ok, first off, thanks to our new best friend Lyla who managed
to get us copies of the two 'ED' episodes that feature our music. xoxo!
and, you can actually catch a (low resolution) glance at our video for 'radio
city'. singlereel.com has accepted the video and kindly offered to host a
streaming version for viewing online! again, xoxo! here's how you
can see it:
1. click here 2. click 'login' (in the top right portion of the screen) 3. USERNAME is radio PASSWORD is city 4. select MUSIC category
5. select radio city 6. click PLAY
oh, and one more thing. if you could send some good weather karma for
our outdoor gig in Trenton on Sunday, Sep 21, that would be grand!
hurricane isabel be damned! after all, we wouldn't want to end up like
diana ross, oops, i mean ms. ross in central park! xoxo!
jul 01, 2003 first off, more live dates are comin'...LOTS more!! keep this page
bookmarked and/or sign up for our mailing list...
...and we just found out that HUGE has been nominated for 2003 ALBUM
OF THE YEAR as part of the Stonewall Society's Pride in the Arts
Awards! the final word is determined by YOU so we need your help!
to go to the Stonewall Society website and VOTE for HUGE!!
p.s. don't forget to share the love with fellow nominee Marie Gray - our
fabulous grrrlfriend who traveled down to Tennessee to perform with us at the
Nashville New Music Conference. TELL your friends, family, neighbors and
random strangers on the street to pop on over and vote.
a big thank you to all of you and Stonewall Society. cheers!
apr 29, 2003 so...are you ever just sittin' around and life throws you one of those
wicked and wonderful wake up calls?
huh? ok, it's friday and let's just say you come home from another lovely week
at 'the day job', pour yourself a tall tumbler of vintage zinfandel (straight
outta the box), kick up your feet and turn on the telly. you delicately sip your
fine, fine wine until a gloriously indescribable haze takes up residence in your
head and sidles up to a cozy little couch in the corner.
note to reader: believe
it or not, this is NOT 'a portrait of an alcoholic' - the story does have a
point...read on.
so, you're flipping thru the channels, until you finally take mercy on the
remote, go cold turkey and commit to the peacock. you find yourself being sucked
into the suprisingly charming stories of folks from a small town named
stuckyville. the series is Ed (you've seen the commercials - lawyer goes
back to his hometown, buys a bowling alley, walks around in suit of armor with
bouquet of flowers, got it now?) and everything seems to work for the show - good
stories, great characters, fine acting and perfect musical backdrop. so here's
the kicker...you're sitting there, reveling in the escapism that friday nights
were made for and you realize that you're getting kicked in the heart and
swaying your head to...your own song!
ok, you're buzzed but you're not THAT far gone! completely blown away you decide
to savor the moment, the remainder of the show, the evening...the overwhelmingly
unanimous consensus in your head is that you'll return to the real world on
saturday and start sorting out the 'huh?!!!'
so along comes saturday and this
time you're getting kicked in the head (boxed wine hangovers HURT)!
note to self: upgrade to screw top
you wake up, fall out of bed... and stroll on over to the relentless blinking of
the answering machine - scratching your head, you decide to cave...'ok, you
win...this time!' you hit the play button, feeling defeated (you held out for
over 8 days this time - damn near a record) and, alas, there hides a message
from your publisher (the fabulous boys and girls at ENDURANCE
MUSIC), informing you that the bootLICKERS have licensed, not one, but TWO
songs for TWO different episodes of Ed. oh, how your neurotic, reclusive
musician ways had almost nailed you this time - but fortunately, the crazy
cosmic god of remotes saw fit offer up some divine intervention and froze your
finger on the pulse of small town america! yes, my friends, it's the dawn of a
new age for the bootLICKERS. we'll let you know when you can catch the
rebroadcasts and share the buzz - just be sure to have that boxed wine ready!
endnote: ok, so i guess you're wondering, 'which songs?'. well
'possums, those would be road and hope from HUGE...affectionately
known to most of you as 'track 3' and 'track 5' ;-)
dec 19, 2002 hello fellow 'lickers and 'lickerettes! time for an update. let's see, the VOICES review of HUGE is out and it's a definite keeper ("the bootLICKERS scream
with versatility throughout the context of HUGE..."). check out the magazine at your local Barnes and Noble.
also, we were just
notified that HUGE has been selected by THIS WAY OUT/AudioFile as one of the releases deemed:
*** Best of the Year ***
THIS WAY OUT/AudioFile is a radio program syndicated on 125+ radio stations worldwide!!HUGE will be featured in the december broadcast . check the sidebar on the right to find out how you can hear the bootLICKERS honored by this legendary radio program.
NOTE:THIS WAY OUT/AudioFile is broadcast on public radio and, like public radio, it is primarily listener-supported. So...if you're feeling generous this holiday season, please pledge a few bucks to
help fund 14 more ground breaking years...how many other internationally syndicated programs even LISTENED to HUGE? let alone featured it AND came back to it to plug it as a
'Best of the Year'?! we think it's one of the best but without the marketing muscle of a major label, getting airplay is up there with winning the lottery or sleeping with vin diesel (uh, i mean
MEETING vin diesel). THIS WAY OUT/AudioFile found us by actually listening with their ears, not a label's! let's give 'em some love. you can find out how to
contribute here.
...and check the sidebar for lots of our archived interviews
from this year. some of the excellent ones, like the hour-long live performance/interview with Robert Drake at wxpn, phila and the feature with the endearing John Frame at 4ZZZ,
Australia, have not been archived (sad, but true). however, you can revisit some excellent pieces with the award winning J.D. Doyle (fuck Prince...THIS is the hardest-working man in show
business!), IMRU radio (Chris Allen and Mark Armstrong had a good 'ol time with our band name. We loved their banter and glowing commentary!), and our THIS WAY OUT/AudioFile segments
...and you can now watch the archived video broadcast coverage of the OMA's with the bootLICKERS as featured on the PBS Series Under the
Pink Carpet.
HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON!
p.s. OH, AND HAVE A COSMO too!
(and how 'bout a toast to world peace)
CHEERS!!
nov 13, 2002 ok then, it's been awhile, hasn't it? Well, since the last posting we've played a bunch of dates. where, you may ask? We've played Allentown, Rehoboth, Philly, Asbury Park, Syracuse,
and NYC...at the Knitting Factory, where we were joined onstage by Randy Jones (the original cowboy from the Village People) for a wickedly exuberant version of 'these boots are made for
walkin'!!
We've
been featured on the PBS program "Under the Pink Carpet" and HUGE has been reviewed in the Chicago Windy City Times ("I really connected with the energetic pop
sound"), Baltimore GL ("I found something to like about all 12 tracks on this album"), and in the Nov 2002 edition of VOICES magazine (available at Barnes
and Noble).
Check out the cd and c'mon out and see us live!!
apr 22, 2002 We had a great time at the HUGE cd release parties. Thanks to
everyone for coming out! More dates TBA soon! Check back for pics
from the shows. Also, check out the feature article on us in the PGN
until 4/26. More stuff real soon!!!!
apr 12, 2002 We're going to be LIVE on the radio!!! Don't forget to tune in to QZINE on 88.5 FM, WXPN, Philadelphia on Sunday at 10PM ET. If you're outside of Philly, you can listen live on
the web by clicking here. Click on LISTEN LIVE to hear the broadcast.
apr 9, 2002 In October 2001, we went on a little performing excursion to Nashville, TN (see below). While there, we had the good fortune of meeting producer/performer Mary White, owner of QP Sound
Studios in North Hollywood, CA.
Well, turns out, Mary had taken to HUGE and rung us up this month with an enticing proposition. After some discussion, we ended up
negotiating a deal with Mary to produce our tune "Love Comes Back" for an L.A. artist named Harmony Schreiter. You go Harmony...we can't wait to hear the 'west coast' version!
apr 8, 2002 Well, LIVE dates are here!!!
We have TWO cd release parties for HUGE! (see info bar...oh, and you might want to study the band
profile of the month - prizes could be in order!)
Also, an FYI: "Radio City" from HUGE is being featured in the upcoming short film Stray Witness which will premiere at the Toronto Inside Out Festival in May
2002. A big, HUGE thank you to director Neil Cameron for seeking us out!
UPCOMING: A interview/live performance on 88.5 WXPN, Philadelphia with Robert Drake. We're taping the show next Wednesday for an April 14th broadcast...details to follow.
mar 6, 2002 Listen to our interview on 102.1 mhz 4ZZZ. The catch is that you have to live near Brisbane, Australia! Host John Frame interviews and spins 'Road'
beginning at 6pm. G'day mate!
feb 25, 2002
Listen to our interview on KPFT, Houston live via the web - TONIGHT at 10pm EST!
Also, listen to another interview on THIS WAY OUT/AudioFile, an L.A. produced, syndicated news/music program broadcast to 125+ radio stations worldwide, all this week. See the table to the right
for links to internet broadcasts of the interviews or go to www.THISWAYOUT.org
to find the local stations that carries the program in your area.
feb 05, 2002 OK,
so we slept through January...now, now, you all know we've been bustin' our ass promotin' HUGE!! Some news - ok.
We've been getting airplay on 91.7 KOOP, Austin, TX ("Driving"played right after Debby Harry and just before "Tear Me Down"from Hedwig and the Angry Inch – kick ass company!),
90.5 WJFF Jeffersonville, NY ("Love Comes Back" and "Margo"), and 88.5 WXPN, Philadelphia ("Love Comes Back")!
And...we were featured on 90.7 KPFK, Los Angeles on Monday, February 4th on IMRU Radio. If you missed it, check their website. They archive their
shows for a week or two for playback. Go to www.IMRU.org and click on "Show Highlights". The banter about HUGE went like this:
Co-Host Chris Allen raved, "I put this in my cd player and fell in love with it right off the
bat!" Co-Host Mark Armstrong responded, "Every single song I liked on this cd - they kinda remind me of The BoDeans."
How cool is that (by the way, The BoDeans are like, how can I say...AMAZING!!)
Oh, and Taylor Cage from 91.7 KOOP, Austin raves about HUGE: "Man, what a great CD! I LOVE it!"
oh, did we mention - we love everybody...stay tuned.
dec 31, 2001
