Irreverent
stage shows, a love of music, and great songs have captivated bootLICKERS
audiences all along the east coast for the past five years.
It all began at Philly’s most notorious leather/levi bar - The Bike
Stop. The bootLICKERS Sunday night residency at the Bike Stop
allowed the band to hone their skills as musicians as well as
entertainers. Anything that could’ve gone wrong – did!
But, somehow, the band prevailed and became a Sunday night institution!
In fact, the bootLICKERS released their first cd Universal Nancy on
a whim. According to lead
singer, John McNeill, “Whenever we played, people were asking for our cd.
We didn't have one, so…we just decided to lock ourselves all
together in a room with some equipment and see what happened.
Well, nine exhausting months later Universal Nancy was
born!”
Much
to their surprise, Universal Nancy went further than anyone
expected - almost 3500 sold and tons of cool reviews from Outsounds,
Philadelphia Weekly, au courant, PGN, Philadelphia City Paper, etc. The
band were profiled as “Hometown Heroes” in the Philadelphia City
Paper, voted “Best Gay Band” by the Philadelphia Weekly and recognized
in the national publication “The Best of 1998 – The Year in Sex” (Starbooks
Press) ...it was VERY tasteful! Features
followed on the television programs "Philly After Midnight",
"Good Day Philadelphia" and "In Bed With Butch" and
numerous radio appearances including a live performance for 93.3 WMMR,
Philadelphia
's
top-rated rock station.
And
now with their new opus, HUGE, the bootLICKERS are systematically
invading American airwaves, restoring credibility to hi-fi’s worldwide!
From epic tales of tinseltown's finest "Margo Fontaine and the
Hollywood Kids" to the power pop anthem "Love Comes Back"
to the haunting paranoia of "Breathe", a listening of HUGE
will leave any fine citizen both exhilarated and exhausted!
There
is a fresh energy found within the tracks of HUGE.
There is passion, vibrancy, urgency and sincerity.
There are the rich and textured vocals.
There are brash elements of rock, power pop, and - at times - the
gentle sway of a pedal steel revealing a touch of alt-country.
Most of all, there are great songs.
Upon
recording HUGE, the bootLICKERS decided to f@*# with convention a
bit, this time around enlisting the percussive talents of June Bromley,
former touring drummer for Willie Nelson and Kitty
Wells, the queen of country music! Building
upon the homegrown feel of their debut, the new material just screams
bigger, bolder and, yes, even more delicious!
